New Fundraising Record for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

DTN was the Presenting Sponsor to raise more than $900,000 at the 16th annual Walk to Cure Diabetes

DTN was the presenting sponsor of the 16th annual Walk to Cure Diabetes for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), announced today that it helped raise more than $900,000 for the walk to fund diabetes research.

More than 560 DTN employees, friends and family participated in this year’s event and raised nearly $150,000.  DTN’s fundraising efforts significantly contributed to helping the Omaha-Council Bluffs Chapter of the JDRF surpass its goal to raise more than $875,000 through the combined efforts of more than 5,000 walkers and corporate sponsors.

“DTN’s participation and fundraising efforts for this year’s Walk to Cure Diabetes were extraordinary,” said Shawn Reynolds, executive director, Omaha-Council Bluffs Chapter, JDRF.  “DTN was the corporate chair and contributed to the overall success, setting a new record for funds raised by a single team.  DTN’s leadership surpassed all expectations.”

“DTN is proud to partner with JDRF on such an important goal – curing a disease that kills one American every three minutes,” said Robert Gordon, chief executive officer of DTN and this year’s JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes corporate chairman.  “We received extraordinary support from the many corporate sponsors and the broader Omaha community.  The money DTN was able to raise will help JDRF reach its goal by funding important research for diabetes and its complications.”

JDRF walks are held in more than 200 cities worldwide.  Nationally, nearly 500,000 people walked to cure diabetes last year.  Collectively, JDRF walks raised more than $94 million last year for diabetes research and are expected to raise $100 million this year.  In 2007, JDRF provided more than $140 million to diabetes research and is responsible for more than $1 billion in direct funding since it was founded.  Since 2005, JDRF fundraising activities have provided more than $1 million to Nebraska research facilities.
