When you open a quote window, the first cell in the Ticker Symbol column is selected and ready for input. You can enter a standard symbol or any of the alternative entries described below.
To enter additional symbols, select a cell in the Ticker Symbol column, and follow the instructions below. If you select a cell that already contains a symbol, the data for the new symbol will replace the previous data.
To Add a Symbol
To enter a single symbol, type the symbol in the Ticker Symbol column and press Enter. Repeat for additional symbols.
Examples: NGX4 (for NYMEX Natural Gas Nov 04)
FBH4 (for Brent Crude March 04)
MHP (for McGraw Hill)
To Add an Automatically Updating Symbol
For a row that will always provide data for the current contract month and will automatically update as the contract rolls over, type the root symbol of the contract followed by @1, then press your enter key.
For example, enter C@1 for the current corn contract. For an automatically updating symbol for the next month out, use the root symbol followed by @2. Use @3 for the next following month, and so on. ProphetX will update your symbols automatically as contracts expire.
To Add Most Actively Trading Futures Contract
For a row that will always provide data for the most actively trading futures contract month, type the root symbol of the contract followed by @A, then press your enter key.
The most actively trading futures contract is based on yesterday's Volume. Yesterday's most active future will display in the Quote Sheet.
For example, enter NG@A for the most actively trading natural gas contract.
To Add a Futures Chain (with Automatic Updates)
Type the root symbol (for example, NG), and then press your F3 key.
To Enter a Specific Number of Contracts
Type the root symbol, a space, then the number of contracts to display (for example, NG 3), then press your F3 key.
Chains entered with your F3 key will automatically update as contracts roll over.
To Add Filtered Entries: Symbols and Chains
To customize your quote request for exchanges and sources, right-click in the quote window and select ADVANCED REQUEST on the pop-up menu. The Advanced Request dialog can also be used to add a future chain, a future options chain, or an options chain.
To Add a Symbol List
To add a symbol list, open the ProphetX Explorer window and locate the desired symbol list (ones provided with your ProphetX program are located in the Symbol list folder under My ProphetX Files). Place your pointer on the symbol list name or icon and drag it to the quote window.
To Add a Free-Form Function
A free-form function combines one or more instrument symbols, mathematical operators, and numbers. You can include plus (+), minus (-), multiplied by (*), and divided by (/). Enter the function and press enter.
Examples: NGZ4 - NGX4 or WZ4 * 2.
To Add Alias Identifiers
Alias identifiers provide a shortcut for free-form functions that you use often. Use the ProphetX Function Builder to define instrument relationships and functions. Then assign them an easily remembered name (an alias) that can be used in quote and chart windows.
