American Junior Golf Association names DTN as weather partner

MINNEAPOLIS (June 24, 2020) – The American Junior Golf Association has named DTN, an independent source of insights, analysis and decision-support solutions, as its weather provider for the 2020 golf season.

The AJGA is a nonprofit organization focused on youth development and provides top national competition for boys and girls who aspire to earn college scholarships. The AJGA annually hosts more than 100 top-tier junior golf events.

At each event, DTN will provide around-the-clock forecasts and alerting for all weather hazards, along with ongoing consultation with meteorologists.

“Safety is our No. 1 priority,” said AJGA Chief Operating Officer Mark Oskarson. “The DTN suite of services allows us to monitor weather closer, rely on expert meteorological advice and use technology to keep our players, parents, staff and volunteers protected.”

Wind and rain can wreak havoc on a golf round. Lightning is especially dangerous and can strike miles from a storm. DTN experts monitor live weather data and lightning detection networks and provide the AJGA with direct access to consult with a meteorologist. WeatherOps ® , provided by DTN, helps organizers better predict immediate danger, assess potential for other storms nearby and determine when it is most safe to resume play.

“Our mission is to empower our customers with intelligent and actionable insights. The AJGA will have access to the best weather information available should the need arise, so they can quickly react and ensure the safety of the players, spectators and staff,” said Michael Eilts, DTN senior vice president – weather. “Through this partnership, the AJGA demonstrates its commitment to safety while maintaining focus on the mission to help junior golf competitors achieve their life goals.”
