South African Airports Improve Weather Safety Precautions with New System
May 15, 2017
Omaha, Neb. and Minneapolis – DTN, a leading provider of weather-specific insights, announced today that in a partnership that began in April 2016, Jasco Systems teamed up with DTN to enhance air traffic management capabilities in South Africa. The upgrade of its Digital Automatic Terminal Information Systems (D-ATIS) allows the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) Company of South Africa – the sole provider of air traffic management, communication, surveillance, navigation and training for South Africa airports – to reduce air traffic controller and pilot workload which improves and enhances aviation safety within the region.
ATNS has upgraded to MetConsole® 3 Digital Automatic Terminal Information Systems (D-ATIS) – a component of the MetConsole Aviation Weather Suite – at three separate airports. Durban-King Shaka International Airport was the first to successfully commission the new system. Johannesburg- O.R. Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport have also implemented MetConsole® 3 D-ATIS.
The MetConsole Aviation Weather Suite is a well-established aeronautical meteorology solution with worldwide proven performance, delivering a multitude of upgrades including:
- Increased safety. An improved coherence of generated messages and consistency of information that reduces errors introduced through human intervention
- Improved reliability. A fully redundant failsafe architecture design that ensures maximum availability and continuity of information
- Customization. Functionality, interfaces, calculations, and applications can be customized for specific needs and provide a dedicated technician screen with a powerful BITE module continuously monitoring all hardware and software performance
The original MetConsole O-ATIS solution had reached its end-of-life and the customer sought to upgrade to the latest MetConsole Aviation Weather Suite platform.
The DTN/Jasco partnership offers the most comprehensive solution available on the market. DTN’s industry leading experts are available to comment on airport safety and weather precautions.
